Cottbus has a long gardening tradition. Parks, avenues and leafy areas are results of a gardening club from a hundred years ago who took responsibility for the ecological regeneration of the city.

A continuous green line connects the centre of Cottbus with the parks in the south of the town. The youngest park is the Spreeauen Park which has been visited by millions since National gardening show in 1995.

The 1.2 hectares of water are surrounded by the rose gardens, rhododendron groves, meadows with various plant life, and the chemist and farmers' gardens. The Tertiary forest, with its plants and bushes taken from various periods in the Earth's history, boulders from the ice age and a huge fossilised tree stump is an attractive location for experts.

The park pavilion provides a stage for performances viewed by up to 1,200 spectators. There is always a lot of enthusiasm for Cottbus' annual traditions of theatrical and light and fire spectacles, which receive thousands of visitors.

The park's large play areas make it an ideal attraction for families.
