Sport in Cottbus
Cottbus is an "Olympiastützpunkt" (Olympic support centre) for gymnastics, athletics, boxing and cycling. There have been come athletes with international reputations from Cottbus.
Highlights of competitive sports are without doubt the "Turnier der Meister" being one out of just five world-wide gymnastics Grand Prixes and the "German Meeting" which unites a lot of world-famous athletes once a year.
In the 1999/2000 and the 2005/2006 football seasons, FC Energie Cottbus sensationally achieved advancement to the German Football League. Broad assistance to the footballers given by masses of fans is the best demonstration for a sport orientated city and its region.
