As part of the city wall the youth hostel at the Klostertor limits the adjacent Klosterplatz. The old two-storied half-timbered house once served as bastion for the protection of the monastery. Later it became an oast-house, warehouse and in 1842 the first textile mill was raised. Since 1936 it serves as a travellers' hostel.

Monastery's square

Still today you can identify the corona and cloister of the medieval Franciscan monastery. The location between Klosterkirche (claustral church) and city wall as well as the nice antique tree population give silence and romanticism.

Monastery church

The "Klosterkirche", also called the "Wendische Kirche" (Wendish church), demonstrates the influence of the Franziscan monks in the town of Cottbus. The church is the oldest one in Cottbus and was built between the 14th and 16th century.
The monastery church is an important reminder in Cottbus' history: The city founder's gravestone with the symbol of a crab remains the emblem of Cottbus.
