Sectors
Food industry
People love to enjoy Spreewald pickles and Lusatian linseed oil far beyond the borders of Lusatia. Along with many other products from the Spreewald these two items attest to the strong manufactures in the food industry hailing from the Cottbus region. The food industry has some of the highest turnover of all the industrial sectors in Brandenburg.
Media, Information and communication technology
Brandenburg is home to some 1,200 media and ICT companies. When supporting services are included this number increases to approximately 1,700 companies employing nearly 17,000 people. Many small and medium-sized ICT companies have made a name for themselves in Cottbus. Innovative companies are developing software and system solutions for a wide variety of sectors.
Energy and environment
Many people know Cottbus as the city of energy. Three large-scale power plants make sure the region is on high "voltage". The energy source comes from the surrounding Lignite Mining District. This region has been shaped by brown coal mining like no other in the country. The sector is undergoing change.
Traffic engeneering
The Berlin-Brandenburg region stands for mobility by land, rail or air. The capital region hosts a magnitude of suppliers for the automobile industry and has taken up speed in the last few years. The Cottbus region has made a major contribution to this growth. Cottbus boasts specific expertise in research and development with its Brandenburg Technical University (BTU) and the Lausitz University of Applied Sciences.
Metalwork
The steel and metal industries have traditionally been key sectors in Germany and that still rings true for the capital region; the sector of industry is among the top job providers where some of the most turnover is achieved. Cottbus provides export-oriented sectors close proximity to the Eastern European markets and embodies "Made in Germany" as well.
