Cottbus' park area in front of the city towers is worth more than a single visit. A trip on the Cottbus miniature railway is an extremely relaxing way to pass the time.

A comfortable narrow-gauge railway

This railway startd its operations on June 1, 1954. It was first called the "Pioniereisenbahn" (pioneer's railway). Treasured by Cottbus' guests and citizens alike, the miniature railway now travels on a 2 feet wide track through Cottbus' park area. The little railway spends about 45 minutes winding through the Elias Park, the Spreeauen Park and the zoo before arriving in Branitz' Fürst Pückler Park. It is also easy to explore the parks by foot starting from the railway stations. Visitors can take a relaxed walk along the Spree river meadows and on the way to the Branitz Fürst Pückler Park with its pyramids, the Schloss and the Marstall (royal stud, a former service building belonging to the Schloss).

Every year, the sound of the engine rings in the ears of the parks visitors. Sometimes the trips have a musical accompaniment during the holidays and at the beginning of the season. They are then in an unmistakeable contest with the whistling and puffing of the old-fashioned locomotives.

The miniature railway's conductors and service staff are particularly noticeable. Young volunteers from the society for the promotion of the Cottbus miniature railway provide excellent hospitality for the visitors. They present themselves proudly in their elegant blue uniforms. Come on board and enjoy a trip on the miniature railway.
