Ludwig - Leichhardt - Allee

Under beautiful shady chestnut trees, along the eastern Spree bank, from the Franz Mehring bridge over the Kleines Spreewehr and the planetarium this avenue, the formerly rose banks opposite to the Blechen Park, leads through the Elias Park, directly to the fair center in the Spreeauen Park.

This avenue was named after a man who was educated in Cottbus, passed here his A-levels in 1831 and whose work obtained international recognition.

Ludwig Leichhardt (1913 till 1948) was a geographer and Australia researcher and he has still today a large reputation in Australia. This is shown in the large number of mountains, rivers, animals and plants that carry Leichhardt's name in his honour.
