Cottbus is a paradise for park aficionados. Since the Bundesgartenschau (German Federal Garden Show) in 1995, the new Spreeauenpark, the zoo and the world-famous Branitz landscape park, created by Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau, combine to form a green belt outside the city gates. These old and new parks, penetrating well into the city itself, have become the trademark of Cottbus.
