In 2018 and 2019, we organized a program with the aim to alphabetize people with Persian as their mother tongue (called “Roschnaie") and women with children lacking a spot in a childcare facility whose native language is Arabic (called “Amal”). Both programs were aimed at people with learning hurdles. Those hurdles can be anything, ranging from no previous education, underlying psychological aspects, to simpler thing like age restrictions. The participants were alphabetized in German as well as their native language as studies have shown better progress if simultaneous schooling is applied.

Although the programs both ended in 2019, a continuously high amount of people within the target group of people who did not get an A1 certificate after finishing up all of their integration course hours, remained. Thus, the department for education and integration, in cooperation with the project Diversity as a Chance, has filed a motion for a model project called “Nour”. The concept of Nour exceeds the idea of Roschnaie and Amal as it not only aims to alphabetize people but also provides basic education on topics such as politics, computers, history, mathematics. Accordingly, the employability of the people of this program is supposed to increase as they are better equipped to deal with multiple challenges within the German labor market.
